Matariki drone light shows
Light, story and connection for Matariki
A story shaped with cultural expertise
Matariki events bring communities together. SkyWorx creates bespoke drone light shows that combine aerial animation with cultural storytelling. As a Māori-owned company based in Rotorua, we work with local artists and cultural experts to bring a story into the sky with care for its meaning and context.
A cultural production starts with the people connected to the story. Discuss iwi involvement, the whenua, the audience and the purpose of your event at the beginning of the creative process. The visual direction can then develop around those conversations.
From creative brief to aerial display
Our locally based fleet of 500 drones provides a canvas for synchronised formations and animation. Share the themes you want to explore, the atmosphere you want to create and how the show fits into the wider event. The team can discuss a suitable creative approach and fleet size.
If your event also includes a live stage or broadcast, mention that in your brief. SkyWorx brings 25 years of broadcast experience to productions designed for both the audience at the event and the camera.
Start planning at least three months ahead
A drone light show needs more than a performance slot. Allow a minimum of three months for engagement with aviation stakeholders, iwi, landowners, council teams and emergency services, alongside permitting and operational planning.
Send your proposed date, location, event format and creative vision when requesting a quote. The team can discuss the site and next steps; a proposed location or date is not a confirmed booking.
